STAMFORD, Conn. ‒ Main Street Connect representatives arrived at Stamford’s Villa Maria School Wednesday afternoon to find an appreciative student body waiting to receive their $500 check for in MSC's “Better Schools Bonanza.”

“What you people did was more than magic,” Headmaster Sister Carol Ann said as she showed off her magic skills ripping up a banner that said “Better Schools” and then putting it back together to say “God Bless.”

Student government president Mark Katz also presented a thank-you card to Main Street Connect on behalf of the students and staff of Villa Maria. Accepting the card was Managing Editor Matt Zalaznick, who praised the school for getting enough votes to earn a prize.

“This shows the support your school has in the community,” Zalaznick said.

The school has yet to decide exactly what it will do with the prize, though Sister Carol Ann said it will help improve Villa Maria’s technology.

The Better Schools Bonanza contest awarded prizes to elementary schools throughout Fairfield County based on the number of votes they received. The school that receives the most votes earns $10,000, the school with the second most votes $1,000, and each school that earned 500 votes $500 for the school’s parent organization.

Main Street Connect is a national online news organization with local sites in Fairfield County, including The Daily Stamford, and in Westchester and central Massachusetts.
