STAMFORD, Conn. —  Stamford-based medical relief organization AmeriCares received a donation of $3.8 million in prescription medications from biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for its free clinic program.

AmeriCares has over 400 health care facilities across the country serving the poor and uninsured as part of its U.S. Medical Assistance Program. The donation from AstraZeneca will reach about 100 clinics in 28 states, a press release said. STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford resident John “Jack” Daniel McMenamin, 80, died at home on Jan. 24. He was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on June 10, 1931.

He began a career in banking in 1955 and held various positions until he earned his Connecticut real estate license in 1976 and began working for Champion International. He switched careers again when he started his own limousine chauffer service, which he ran until he retired in 2000.

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Hospital will offer heart patients the Dr. Dean Ornish Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation program designed to reverse the effects of heart disease. The hospital will be the first in the state to offer the program.

The nine-week sessions attempt to change patient lifestyles in four areas: diet, exercise, stress reduction and group support, a Stamford Hospital press release said.
