STAMFORD, Conn. — Looking for something to do in Stamford this weekend? Here are a few events going in the area that you may want to check out.

Friday, Feb. 17

▪ 6 p.m.: The artists of the Loft Artist Association will show how they can turn one person’s garbage into another’s treasure at the opening reception of the “Transformations” exhibit. The opening is free to the public and will take place at the gallery, 845 Canal St. If you can’t make the opening, “Transformations” will be open until March 18. The gallery’s hours are noon to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

▪ 8 p.m.: Former Saturday Night Live and MTV personality Colin Quinn will be at the Ridgefield Playhouse with his stand-up act, “Long Story Short.” Tickets are $80. The playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge Road in Ridgefield.

Saturday, Feb. 18

▪ 11 a.m.: Get ready for this year’s Academy Awards with the Avon Theatre’s Film Festival showing of “Rango” on Saturday morning. Badges for the film festival cost $35 for members and $70 for nonmembers.  Visit the Avon’s website for a complete list of movies and show times.  

▪ Noon: Running fans can get their fill at the State Open Indoor Track and Field Championships at Hillhouse High School, 480 Sherman Parkway, New Haven.

▪ 8 p.m.: Grab a sweater and head over to Terry Conners Ice Rink to watch the Black Knights take on the Norwalk/Brien McMahon team Saturday Night.

Sunday, Feb. 19

▪ 9 a.m.: If the cold doesn’t bother you, check out Yoga in the Bartlett Arboretum’s Garden. The class costs $15 to $20. To sign up, visit the arboretum’s website.

▪ 1 p.m.: For those looking to improve their artistic abilities, Lakeside Pottery will offer a one-day workshop. No previous experience is required. The class is for people age 15 and up. The cost is a$66. The studio is located at 543 Newfield Ave., Stamford.
