STAMFORD, Conn. — Maureen Pavia filed for divorce from Stamford’s Mayor Michael Pavia on Wednesday, citing that the marriage has “broken down irretrievably,” the complaint said.

The two were married March 2, 1973, and their Davenport Farm Lane East home is listed as their residence, the court document said. The sale of the home is pending, Trulia.com reports. That means the owners have accepted an offer, and the sale will close once loan and title documents are filed, the website said.

Pavia was served by a state marshal on Feb. 10 at the Stamford Government Center, the court documents said. The mayor could not be reached for comment. Lynn Arnow, executive aide to Pavia, said it was a “personal matter” and is “respecting their privacy.”

Livia Barndollar, Maureen Pavia’s attorney, said her client wants to try to keep the matter as private as possible, which she believes is appropriate for the mayor, their children and their grandchildren.
