STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man was arrested in connection with break-ins of cars and a home on Fifth Street early Monday, Sgt. Andrew Gallagher said.

Police received an emergency call shortly before 6 a.m. from a Smith Street resident who said he chased a man out of his house, Gallagher said.

Officers later found Larry Bowman Jr., 35, on Morgan Street, where the Smith Street homeowner identified him, police said.

Bowman is suspected of breaking into several area cars, stealing various items, including GPS units, change and flashlights, Gallagher said.

He allegedly used the garage door opener in one of the cars to enter the Smith Street home, where he began looking through the rooms of two girls, ages 12 and 9, police said.

He was in the master bedroom, taking watches and jewelry, when the wife woke up and screamed, waking the husband, who chased Bowman out of the house, Gallagher said.

Bowman gave the Pacific House Shelter in Stamford as his address.
