STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford High’s girls basketball team is aiming for its second straight upset in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday when it meets Trumbull in the semifinals.
No. 7 seed Stamford plays No. 3 Trumbull at 6 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. No. 4 Wilton meets No. 1 Danbury in the other semifinal at 7:30.
Stamford (12-9) reached the playoffs with a victory over Fairfield Warde, 49-39, in its final regular-season game. In Saturday’s quarterfinals, Kelsey Cognetta scored 19 points and Kelsey Santagata added 13 as the Black Knights upset No. 2 St. Joseph, 44-25.
Stamford has won three of its last four games, continuing a roller-coaster season. Stamford started the season 5-0 under first-year coach Todd Parness, and then went 2-7 in its next nine games. That stretch included a 52-33 road loss to Trumbull.
Trumbull (18-3) held off Trinity Catholic, 52-46, behind 20 points from Erin Moore to reach the semifinals.
Tuesday’s winners advance to the championship game on Thursday, also at Fairfield Ludlowe.
