Autistic Students Meet Stamford Mayor

Anthony Portanova and about 15 other autistic children from Stamford High School and Cloonan Middle School got to meet Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia during their field trip to the Government Center on Friday morning. The annual field trip for the children is thanks to the parent-run organization, Stamford Education 4 Autism.

Proposed Law Cracks Down on Fake Autism Therapists

State lawmakers and autism advocates are proposing measures to protect autistic children from people such as Stacy Lore, the woman convicted of misrepresenting herself as an autism therapist.

On Monday, a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers, including Sen. Bob Duff, D-Norwalk; Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney, D-New Haven; and House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk, announced legislation that would crack down on people who falsify credentials to treat children with autism. Child Psychologist 'Gets Physical'

Child developmental psychologist Dr. Michael Weiss told an audience of Fairfield County parents they either were going to love him or hate him by the end of his recent talk at the Wilton Library.

The talk became controversy when Weiss, who treats children with social disorders, said a disability shouldn’t be an excuse for disruptive conduct and that parents and teachers shouldn’t shrink from using force to correct the child.
