Trinity Pitcher Spoils Stamford's Senior Day

The day started with smiles for Stamford High School’s baseball team. Thirteen seniors were honored before the game, but once Trinity Catholic pitcher Chris Neuscheler took the mound the smiles went away as he led his team to a 6-0 win.

“This is the best I’ve thrown all year,” Neuscheler said of his 10-strikeout, complete-game performance Saturday.

New Canaan Principal Heading to Alma Mater

New Canaan High School principal Tony Pavia is not retiring after all — he’s going home.

Pavia announced Thursday that he will take over as principal at Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford at the start of the 2011-12 school year. Pavia announced in November that he was retiring from New Canaan High at the end of the current school year, though he indicated that he would consider other opportunities. Pavia graduated from Trinity Catholic in 1972 when the school was known as Stamford Catholic High School.

Ice Freezes Stamford Sports Schedules

As the roads, trees and power lines continue to ice over, the high school sports schedule has been impacted again. Several Westhill, Trinity Catholic and Stamford High School sports events were postponed Wednesday.

**UPDATE - 4:20 p.m. - The Stamford High School boys hockey game against St. Joseph has been postponed until Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. **

The latest winter storm has caused postponements across the board in the FCIAC. Several Westhill, Trinity Catholic, and Stamford High School sports events have been postponed.

Hockey Is On in Stamford; Other Games Postponed

The latest wallop of snow has hammered the Stamford sports schedule, but hockey games are not giving in to the weather.

The Stamford High School versus Trinity Catholic High School boys varsity ice hockey game at 6:30 p.m. and the Westhill High School versus Trumbull game at 8:30 p.m. are still scheduled to go on as planned Thursday night, according to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference website. Snow Jumbles Sports Schedule Again

By now there have been almost as many postponements as there have been games in January. Stamford, Westhill and Trinity Catholic High School sports events for Wednesday have been postponed because of the snow.

The Trinity Catholic boys and girls varsity basketball games against Danbury have been postponed to Thursday, Jan. 27. FCIAC schedule makers are earning their keep this winter. In addition to closing schools, the morning snow has caused several game postponements for Stamford teams.
