UConn Students Celebrate at Stamford Campus

“We’re doing good, but we need to go harder,” UConn-Stamford student Diana Montoya said when her Huskies were down two at halftime of the men’s basketball national championship game Monday night. Montoya’s words must have gotten into Jim Calhoun’s huddle — the Huskies went on a 34-19 run in the second half to defeat Butler University, 53-41.

Montoya was one of 200 students and staff watching the game from the concourse at the Stamford campus. It was the best spot for the students, who were surrounded by their friends and classmates who share in their school pride.

Pet Video Awards Will Aid Stamford Shelter

Do you find dogs and cats entertaining? If so, you’re in luck. Tickets are now on sale for Outreach to Pets in Need’s second annual Pet Tail Video Awards at UConn Stamford. 

Along with the Jasper award, the Stamford organization’s second annual fundraiser will also have a silent auction as well a chance to get up close and personal with some of the pets looking for a home. Last year, over 200 people attended. Guests this year will include Mayor Michael Pavia.

Stamford's Future 5 Turns Lives Around

Clif McFeely started Stamford-based Future 5 on the premise that everyone usually has five people in their life who hold them back. The answer, the former ad man said, was to find five people who would help lift them up.

McFeely used to make his living marketing to young people using teen research panels to learn what kids wanted. He has also been a Big Brother mentor for 15 years and saw a connection between his professional skills and his personal interest in helping young people.
