Special meals, flowers and cards are all must-haves on Sunday, for Mother's Day. But even more essential, from mom's point of view that is, is spending time with family. Here are some outings to make a marvelous Mother's Day weekend:

For art loving-architecture buff moms, consider a visit to Kykuit, the restored Rockefeller mansion hovering over the Hudson River in Pocantico Hills, NY. Opening on May 7 for the season, its terraced gardens, classic cars and carriages, sculpture and art galleries are all part of its other-worldly package. For more information, visit its website.

Young at heart moms will leap at a family expedition to Mark Twain Library's annual Frog Frolic in Redding on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with its crafts for all ages, games, a silent auction, vendors, delicious food and competitions. (Win the easy-going Cake Walk race and, fittingly, you win a cake.)  For more information, visit the Library's website.

For treasure hunting moms, Minks to Sinks, Wilton's preeminent yard sale benefiting Norwalk's Family and Children's Agency, will be nirvana. From furniture to sports equipment to clothes and decorative pieces, it's all here -- and then some -- and for very reasonable prices. For hours, directions and other information, visit the Sale's website.

Sporty moms can spend Mother's Day in a kayak or doing yoga on the beach with family members. Down Under Kayaking offers both as part of special gift packages that include hats, tee shirts and even private lessons.

Mom might want to safari into the wild on Mother's Day, as long as family is nearby, at The Beardsley Zoo which gives moms free admission all day Sunday.

Think a car show is more Father's Day than Mother's? Not Model Ts to Mustangs Antique and Classic Car Show on Saturday at Stamford Museum and Nature Center. Its special Cadillac section and cavalcade of historic cars will bring out mom's inner hotrodder. For more information, visit the Museum's website.

Strawberries are just one of the main events for mom and hungry family members at St. Mark's 62nd Annual May Fair & Strawberry Festival on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in New Cannan. There are carnival rides and games to try out, goods to shop for at its flea market and plenty of homemade red berry treats to sample. For more information, visit its web page.

Want a wide selection of plants and flowers for Mom? Bartlett Arboretum's Spring Plant Sale, Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Garden Education Center of Greenwich's, Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., have plenty of blooms to choose from.
