Mayor Michael Pavia on Thursday lifted the snow emergency that had been in effect in Stamford since last week. Vehicles that were move to municipal garages because of the ban on street parking ban on snow routes should be removed by 6 p.m. Thursday. After that time regular parking rates will be charged.

Along with the rest of region, Stamford was hit hard by snow, which eventually included sleet and rain, over the past week. In response, the mayor declared a snow emergency the afternoon of Jan. 26.

Not only precipitation, but chilling temperatures have characterized the season so far. By comparison, a high of 39 degrees expected Sunday may seem like a warm front. Before then, however, The National Weather Service forecasts freezing temperatures Friday and more snow and sleet likely on Saturday.

The weather disrupted the municipal calendar this past week, including garbage and recycling pickup. The Mayor’s Office reminds residents those collections will occur a day later than usual for the rest of the week. It is expected that regular collection will take place next week.
