Stamford Schools To Check Out Potential Principals

With several principal positions open for the 2011-12 school year, Stamford Public Schools decided to add an extra step in the selection process. The finalists will visit the schools with openings next week, Superintendent Joshua Starr said during Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting.

Stamford Classroom Gets Rid of Bed Bugs

A Springdale School kindergarten classroom that was closed Tuesday because bed bugs were found will reopen to students Wednesday, says a Stamford Public Schools spokeswoman.

“The room was steam-cleaned and the [Stamford] health department cleared it to reopen,” said Sarah Arnold. Crevices and cracks were caulked, as well. The room is in a corner area at the end of the building. The room next to it also was closed Tuesday and will reopen Wednesday. It, too, was steam-cleaned and open spaces caulked.

The bed bugs were found Monday afternoon, and the health department was immediately called.

Students Make Valentine’s Day Special for Vets

Mail delivery is always special when you’re in the service, said Jim Santangelo, commander of VFW Post 9617 in Stamford’s Springdale section. On Valentine’s Day, getting a letter or package is particularly meaningful.

“The most important time of the day for many of us was waiting for mail, and we looked forward to getting something from wives or sweethearts on Valentine’s Day,” Santangelo told a group of Springdale School fourth-graders Monday morning.
