The Connecticut Boat Club won six races and picked up two seconds at the Mercer Sprints last weekend in New Jersey.

CBC opened the races on Friday with a win in the Women’s 2x by Southport’s Rosie and Lucy Grinalds. Jackie Cloud added a second-place finish in the Women’s 1x.

On Saturday, CBC won two heats in the Varsity 4+. Whitney Ruhlin, Kirsten Wessel, Emily Wilson and Maria Lycouris raced home in first home in first in the second V4+, guided by cox Andrea Cara. Stephanie Leone served as cox as Courtney Kyritz, Kendra Shutts, Maggie Roberts and Alex Minicucci finished first in the third V4+.

The third Varsity 8+ finished first with Meg Galloway, Courtney Kyritz, Whitney Ruhlin, Alex Minicucci, Emily Wilson, Kirsten Wessel, Maggie Roberts, Kendra Shutts and Andrea Cara.

CBC finished fourth in the second Varsity 8+ with Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Emily Crump, Alex Enzor, Caroline Cochran, Wilson, Wessel, Ruhlin, Lycouris and cox Alissa Hornung.

CBC’s Novice 8+ won its race.

The Women’s first 4+ team of Hornung, Fitzpatrick, Crump, Cochran and Enzor finished second.

The Women's 4x took second with Lexie Lynn, Tori Babchak, Galloway and Cloud.

The first Varsity 8+ team of Lucy Grinalds, Rosie Grinalds, Abby Stevenson, Maddie Stearns, Abbie Frey, Christine Bragg, Heather Oudheusden, India Knight and Katherine Isaza also finished first. 

The rowers competed under difficult conditions. Wind and cold made for unfavorable racing conditions, and some races were canceled late in the day. Next week, CBC rowers head to the Saratoga Invitational to compete against many of the top crews in the region.
